During the shed building process, students use skills they acquire in the CTE program. This program teaches students advanced problem solving skills as well as how to safely use power & hand tools. Time management skills and construction theories are also taught. Students design, draft and construct numerous projects during their four year enrollment in the CTE program. The CTE program continues to educate students through real world experiences like building small structures for people in their community.
The students are involved in the shed building process from start to finish. They learn as they build so it is important to understand that there is the possibility for the occasional imperfection to show up. They are involved in creating estimates as well as ordering materials. They also are responsible for making a schedule that incorporates possible setbacks. The final areas that students are in charge of are the logistics of materials orders, delivery of materials to the site, and the proximity of the project to the high school. This project is meant to be beneficial to the community therefore projects will only be completed within the Averill Park area.
